Mitosis Bosses: How to Enter and Beat a Boss Round
Mitosis bosses are the third goal of a challenge set. Learn how to enter, read the goal bar, adapt to the boss restriction and clear the round.
A Mitosis boss is not a combat fight — it is the third and final goal of a challenge set. You enter one by opening the CHALLENGE entry once it becomes available, and you beat it by meeting that goal's cash target with the SELL attempts you have left while obeying the restriction the boss applies.

How to enter a boss round
Keep splitting and selling until the CHALLENGE entry becomes available, then open it. The Sage introduces THE 3 GOALS: each goal has a cash target and a limited number of SELL attempts, and the third goal is the Boss round with an extra restriction. Entering the boss is simply a matter of progress — clear the first two goals and the boss round is what remains of the set.
Read the goal bar first
The bar just above SPLIT and SELL is your planning tool for the whole set, including the boss:
- GOAL 1 OF 3, 2 OF 3 or 3 OF 3 shows your stage in the set.
- The cash fraction shows earnings credited toward the current goal and the amount required to clear it.
- TRIES shows how many SELL attempts remain. Each sale spends one try; splitting lets you prepare the batch before you use it.
- On the third goal, the BOSS line names the active restriction.
The three documented boss restrictions
Every boss round adds one restriction, and the BOSS line on the goal bar names whichever restriction is active. Three are documented so far:
| BOSS line | What it changes | How to play it |
|---|---|---|
| BOSS: ONE TRY FEWER | Removes one SELL attempt from the round | Prepare a fuller batch before committing an attempt; with only one try left, the next sale must cover the entire remaining gap |
| Splits Take Twice as Long | Doubles split duration | Wait the full cooldown, then keep splitting to build the batch — a longer wait is no reason to spend a try early |
| Only Half of Your Balls Pay | Only half your balls contribute payment | Build up the batch and judge each sale by the actual increase on the goal bar; a large ball count alone doesn't tell you what will count toward the target |
Beat the cash target with the tries you have
You beat the boss by meeting the third goal's cash target within your remaining SELL attempts. Plan from the goal bar, not your wallet: if the bar shows $48 / $100 with 3 TRIES, you need $52 more across up to three sales — about $17.33 per remaining sale on average. The combined sales must cover the full gap; individual sales don't have to be equal, and if one sale comes in low, the later sales make up the difference. Update the budget after every sale, and under the half-paying restriction, count only the cash actually credited to the goal.
Under ONE TRY FEWER, budget with the TRIES shown on the bar — the restriction is already reflected there. The practical priority is stronger individual sales: waiting through additional splits can be worthwhile when it makes better use of the attempts you have left.
Use a Rainbow event if one is running
An active Rainbow event provides ×1.5 SELL and can help you clear the Boss. Prepare a useful batch and aim to sell while the boost is still active — watch its countdown so extra splitting doesn't cost you the boosted sale window.
After the win: SET BEATEN!, Card Shop and CASH OUT
Completing the third goal beats the Boss and finishes the set: SET BEATEN! confirms it, the Card Shop becomes available, and beating a Boss round fulfills the Gold Boss Buster achievement requirement. Challenge rewards can include cash, Tokens and new cards — one documented clear, for example, saw a $270 goal finished by a $349 sale award 6 Tokens and an Overgrowth card, though those rewards belonged to that specific clear rather than a fixed payout.
One last reading note: clearing a goal brings up CASH OUT, and its amount is separate from the goal bar. The target is the earnings requirement you must meet, while CASH OUT displays the settlement amount — a longer-split Boss clear with a $245K target can show $207K CASH OUT, so the target itself is not a promised payout.
