Mitosis: How to Split Cells and Confirm It Worked

The SPLIT button at the bottom center of the lab screen splits cells in Mitosis. If the × counter above SPLIT rises, your split worked — here's the full check.

The SPLIT button at the bottom center of the lab screen splits a cell in Mitosis. Click it with the cell-splitting screen open and AUTO off to grow your cell population, then read the × counter directly above the button to confirm the split worked.

How to split a cell

  1. Open the cell-splitting lab screen.
  2. Check the AUTO toggle beside SPLIT — turn it off if you want to decide when each ball splits.
  3. Click SPLIT at the bottom center of the screen. A countdown and progress bar run while the split happens.
  4. When they finish, click SPLIT again to keep growing the batch.

How to tell the split worked

The × number above SPLIT is your current cell count — ×2 means two cells. If that number increased after your click, the split succeeded.

You will also see the split in progress. While SPLIT is on cooldown it shows a lock icon, and a countdown above the button counts down the remaining wait. Repeated clicks do not skip that wait — split again once it finishes.

Manual splitting vs. Auto-Split

The AUTO toggle beside SPLIT enables Auto-Split, which splits balls automatically — including Zombie evolution balls. Leave AUTO off whenever you want to choose the moment each ball splits yourself.

Before you split: cure Rotten balls

A ball showing the Rotten warning has a $0 payout. Hover it to read the Rotten tooltip, then click the ball before using SPLIT and look for CURED! feedback to confirm the treatment. Act as soon as you notice the warning — clicking is not a guarantee of recovery at every stage.

When a boss doubles your split time

In challenges, a boss restriction such as "Splits Take Twice as Long" doubles the split duration. Wait out the full cooldown and keep splitting to build the batch — a longer wait is not a reason to spend a SELL attempt early, because the goal still needs enough credited earnings within your available tries. (SELL sits beside SPLIT and turns accumulated cells into cash; see how to sell cells for the payout step.)

That is the whole control set: SPLIT to grow, the × counter to verify, and the lock countdown to pace yourself. For the surrounding loop of upgrades, selling and next goals, the Mitosis beginner guide walks the split–wait–sell cycle and the Mitosis bosses page lists more challenge restrictions like this one; active Mitosis codes are kept on the codes page.
