Mitosis Special Events: Recognizing Gold Rush and Meteor Shower (and What to Do During Each)

Recognize Gold Rush and Meteor Shower in Mitosis and know what to do while each runs, from selling into the 2× window to tracking overlapping event countdowns. Plus what's known about Blood Moon.

Gold Rush, Blood Moon and Meteor Shower are the three special events Mitosis names in its official description. They don't play the same way:

  • Gold Rush — a sale boost. Sales pay 2× Cash while it's active, so this is the window to build a batch and sell.
  • Meteor Shower — a timed weather event with falling meteors and a TOKENS readout on its event card. No sale or mutation multiplier is attached, so keep splitting and selling as usual.
  • Blood Moon — named in the official description, but no bonus is known for it yet. Play your normal loop through it.

Timing-wise, jar-triggered weather events arrive with an on-screen announcement and a countdown and apply to everyone present, and Gold Rush runs on its own countdown. How Blood Moon announces itself isn't documented yet — it's the one event here with no known way to spot it.

How weather events start: the Weather Jar

Weather events trace back to the Weather Jar in the upper-right area of the lab, the shared weather trigger. Watch its progress fill; when it shows FULL!, the jar tilts and pours out, and a weather announcement with a remaining-time display appears. Meteor Shower is one event that can follow a full jar. Jar-triggered events aren't personal, either — they apply to everyone present in the server.

There's a small reward for simply being around: if you're in the server at the moment the jar fills, you earn the Gold Team Effort achievement. The condition is presence at that moment, nothing more.

Every event at a glance

The name on the event card tells you which event is running; this is what each one boosts:

EventTypeBonus while active
Gold RushTimed sale-boost event2× sale Cash
RainbowTimed sale-boost event1.5× sale Cash
EclipseTimed weather event1.5× mutations, 6× rare mutations
Lava RainTimed weather event1.75× mutations
Meteor ShowerTimed weather eventnone listed
Candy RainTimed weather eventnone listed
Blood MoonEnvironmental eventnone known yet

Multipliers apply only while the named event is active. If you're chasing mutations, Eclipse and Lava Rain are the events that matter; for Cash, it's Gold Rush and Rainbow. Candy Rain you'll recognize by falling candy and its event timer rather than any boost.

Gold Rush: sell into the 2× window

Gold Rush is the stronger of Mitosis's two sale-boost events — 2× Cash per sale versus Rainbow's 1.5×. The play is simple: keep splitting to build up a batch of cells, then complete your sale while the Gold Rush countdown is still showing. If the countdown ends first, the sale pays at the normal rate.

If you're new to the selling side of the loop, the how to sell cells guide covers the mechanics, and the dedicated Gold Rush page goes deeper on the event itself.

One extra route exists: promo code rewards have granted a Gold Rush directly, separate from the naturally occurring timed events. Current codes are kept on the Mitosis codes page.

Meteor Shower: business as usual, plus a readout

Meteor Shower is easy to identify: meteors fall across the lab, the event carries the Meteor Shower label, and a countdown shows how long it has left. Its event card also includes a TOKENS readout — read that amount as part of the current event display. It's a status value; no known action changes it, so treat it as information rather than a task.

Because no sale or mutation multiplier is attached to Meteor Shower, nothing about your routine needs to change. The event applies to everyone present, and you can keep splitting and selling while it runs.

Blood Moon: named, but not documented yet

Blood Moon is one of the special events Mitosis names in its official description, and it sits outside the weather and sale-boost groups as an environmental event. No sale, mutation or rare-mutation bonus is known for it, and how it announces itself or what it does isn't documented yet.

That leaves no known window to plan around, so keep to your normal loop rather than restructuring a sale batch or mutation session around it.

Watch the timers when events overlap

A new weather announcement doesn't mean the previous event has ended. Eclipse can begin while Meteor Shower is still active, and Lava Rain can coexist with Meteor Shower too — Eclipse can open with 2:00 on its clock while Meteor Shower has only seconds left. Check the upper-right weather display and each individual event card for its own countdown, and respond to whichever event is actually about to expire.

That matters most at the margins: when Rainbow ends, its temporary sale bonus stops and normal sale earnings return, so a sale finished after the end pays at the regular rate. Plan your next split or sale around the bonus you actually want to use, rather than treating every timer as one shared deadline.
